welcoming Ramadhan

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, the Islamic month of fasting in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual activities from dawn until sunset .. fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility and spirituality and is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God and to offer more prayer than usual .. during Ramadhan, Muslims ask for forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds ..

coming into the holy month of Ramadhan again this year, i feel a sense of calm and serenity .. it's just what Ramadhan does to me each year i guess .. and each year during this month, i'm constantly reminded of my late grandma who used to embrace the month of Ramadhan in its entirety .. among the little things which she held by was to never miss her optional Tarawikh prayers every night of the month at the mosque .. as a result, she would drag us all along to accompany her .. no doubt we used to get rather annoyed that we had to follow her to the mosque every single night, but looking back we now see how important it was for her and how it eventually brought us all closer together despite our hectic schedules during the month .. she was a truly generous woman whose strength through her hard times never brought her down in any way .. it made her even stronger and determined was what they did .. i'll always miss her - al fatihah

in the spirit of Ramadhan, i will attempt my very best this year to be a better Muslim .. i may falter in some ways but i believe everyone makes mistakes .. i admit i may have made plenty but that sure won't stop me ..

praying for a blessed Ramadhan and Eid .. God willing! =)
